Ancestrel Wines by All Purpose
I absolutely adore the way that the letterforms drip into each other in All Purpose’s logo for Ancestrel Wine, these collide and morph and generally glooping together like syrup. This ultimately forms the logo, and it’s not just a lovely piece of type design – it’s also a smart but rather subtle representation of a bunch of grapes. However, it does well to not take an illustrative route: here, it reads more as gesture than illustration, and is designed to ‘hang’ from the top of any given application – a nicely understated reference to the vines this all comes from in the first place.

Number 12 Cider by Buddy Buddy
Number 12 Cider. That’s a gift of a name for a logo designer. Why complicate things? Of course, the skill is in the execution. The win here is in the configuration of the twelve circles into a recognisable and distinctive tree form, and then getting that ‘they’re apples!’ a-ha moment. On pack and online this is dressed this up a bit, placing it within a container and adding the name, giving it a familiar ‘heritage’ quality. Understandable, and certainly not diminishing the symbol. Lovely stuff by Buddy Buddy.
